  1. Yea I figured as much. It would be a huge re write.

And P2P servers would be a massive rewrite as well.

P2P is a peer to peer server. Meaning, players could host their own.

Why would this be good? Space. We wouldn't have to worry about land/map sizes. Since any mmo created with atavism is going to be a crafting/building mmo, player run servers would solve that headache for us. I realize a world can be split when the population is too full, but in todays age, people love hosting their own servers. I have yet to see an mmo do it officially. Normally you have people host pirated servers. Like an unofficial wow server or a bdo server.

  2. I honestly forgot all about this lol..

I moved to another state. Took a full time developer job in Austin, Texas for a MSP company. Had another child, another one on the way. That makes 4 kids. Busy busy busy!

The last thing I remember doing, was researching how to make prefabs OUTSIDE of unity.... which I in-fact did figure out. And it was super stupid easy to do.

Will I continue this project? I don't see why not. In fact, a webapp may be a better option than a windows program.

The whole point of this project, was to make it easier for other team members that do not have unity, to make quests and other new stuff. A technical artist does not need unity or atavism. They just simply need an editor to make items, quests, stat changes, etc etc.

I'll sit on it for a bit.

  3. With the new owner of atavism, are there plans to ditch the early 2000's combat system?

Once you have a taste of black desert online's combat, other mmo's just seem..... old.

Also, will there be any plans of having P2P server hosting. A lot of us (customers prior to buyout) have 0 interest in keeping up "official" servers.

    Thanks!

  4. Whelp...

I am going to be working on this for the time being as I wait for a few of my hired artists to finish up.

I changed the way it looks. The old way was with WPF.... I hate WPF.

I am also trying to work out a way to send data from unity to the application. That way, you don't have to write down xyz positions for markers and when you make an item, you can import them into your atavism project.

So by the end, this will be a desktop application AND a unity script that will work together.

I tried to grab the OLEObjectData by draging and droping a gameobject from unity INTO my program, but the data is garbage, as I know it would be. So a unity script will have to be made. No problem though :)

    Stay tuned!

  5. Yes I am still making this.

I am making it at the same time as I make my game.

It's not hard to program at all.... its just super tedious with all the WinControl swaps I have to do.

And making Atavism 2D compatible is taking up most of the time.

But don't worry, It will come out :)

  6. So i started to play around with consumables today...

I am not a big fan of it.

In the long run, if I have say... 100 consumable items (cake, pumpkin pie, whatever)

I will need to have 100 Abilities named after that consumable as well.

Is this the best way to go about this?

If it is, I'm fine with that.

  7. Project Name:

    The Legend of Kilgore

    Description:

The Legend of Kilgore is a 2D Pixel top down MMORPG.

For now, there is no story or content. Kilgore is a place, but I have not really dug into anything yet. I am open to ANY story lines anyone has to offer!

    What is needed:

I am not much of an artist. (although my job is being a drafter....)

    We need everything.

Icons, Weapons, Armor, tilesets, building tilesets, interior tilesets, all of it. I wish I could help out here. But I am a programmer. The game is now fully ready for some art work!

The style is a cross from A link to the past and Stardew Valley. It has to be fantasy themed. Steampunk is also cool. Japanese fantasy is also cool.

    Pay:

I have started a google sheet with a list of current open jobs.

I pay half up front, half later. No BS. Just grown ups handling business.

    Thank link is here

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1OIxp3BTUtB7q2AqqwWwl7j6Z1ah0qSOxJO4GuUuujnc/edit?usp=sharing

If you would like to quote a job, please provide previous art work and if I like what I see, I will provide you a link to edit the spreadsheet spreadsheet.

Just put your Quote amount and your name next to it.

    Budget:

My budget is simple. The wife can't punch me in the face.

    Current Artists:

I have a couple of artists on board and they have been paid.

The most talented right now is this guy http://www.desixstudios.com/

    Think you can do better?

    Website:

    www.thelegendofkilgore.com

It's a mess right now. It's wordpress. I can program it fine, just need some more art work ;)

  8. Not stopped at all!

My HDD took a poo, I didn't lose any of the program, but I did have to reinstall the atavism server and everything else with it.

It's taking longer... only cause I keep finding more and more unused sql data columns. So just looking at the atavism editor in unity and making controls based on that is not working that great.

I would like to have our stuff saved to all columns and tables, even if Andrew does not have the coded to work in atavism yet.

Once they are, then all your items will be good to go :)

I'll post some screens a little later!

    Thanks for the interest!

  9. Just wanted to post a status.

I am still working on this every chance I get.

It really is a massive undertaking...

But it will be done and it will be awesome :)

You'll be able to do data entry from anywhere, with or without unity even installed :)

Maybe atavism will add a "Editor License" option. So you can buy a seats for your data entry team without buying them a full atavism license ;)

And as long as you or your team has good naming conventions, then adding icons through this editor will work as well.

I also found two new options for us to use in the mysql database. Item categories and sub categories!

I'll be adding that into my editor. It will make finding items a lot more easy and convenient.

If you click on ADD anywhere you need to add an item

    ff0ncl.png

You will get a Item Search box

    2sb4ime.png

As you can see, good things are coming :)

  10. Hey guys,

So I wanted to show a very VERY early design for a desktop application I am making called ATAVISM ADMIN PANEL.

We all know how tiny the built in editor is and how it can get a little frustrating to use sometimes.

Nothing to do with Atavism, but its more with unity. There really is only so much you can do to the editor.

Now this is a very very early design, so there will be changes.

    Future Plans:

    • FULL atavism database editor
    • FULL server management software (Kick, ban, player coords, logs, everything.)
    • Drag and drop (minecraft) style recipe editor
    • Can be run from ANY computer with or with out unity installed. (All you need is the MySQL user and pass)

Stay tuned for more info and details!

*This will be a "for purchase" program. I don't have a price point yet, but I will drum one up soon.

  11. I have worked with many MMO projects, and have plenty of prior experience.

Now your claim of it violating Atavisms EULA to simply access the database that Atavism uses is incorrect.

Of course Neojac has the right to check if the program is secure, but as long as he isnt distributing Atavism Source and is just reading the tables and entries of the Database, he should be just fine.

    1) The EULA only applies to accessing the AGIS Source, Atavism Client source and Using the AtavismEditor in Unity, I say this because Atavism is based off of an existing open source platform. Login is mainly required for developers

    2) Moderators and In Game Administrators need to be able to access the database to ban accounts, I've asked the question on whats the best way to manage player data (Before the Backdating System) and they told me that PhpMyAdmin is the best way to ban players securely. So obviously, they have no problen of someone making a program to do this.

    3) Neojac cannot regulate your database server, MySQL is owned by Oracle.

    4) This would bring in a bunch of legal issues regarding keeping information safe. By making a MMO game its your responsibility to keep your users information safe, and all MMO's nowadays do not allow 3rd parties to access their database.

Honestly, if anyone's excuse is to rely on Neojac to keep you secure, you shouldn't be making a MMO if you cant handle security incidents yourself. Sure, Neojac will write patches for the Atavism Jar and Atavism Core but you have to always account for the instance of a security breech and have a plan.

I've learned several principles, and here is just a rundown.

    Security

    Do not trust the...

    - Client

    - Hosting software

    - Environment

Ouch. I must trust them ?

    - Trust where you must

    - Verify

    - Audit

Point is, your able to make it. As long as your not giving out source, reverse engineering or decompiling with intention of modifying AtavismCore or the Atavism Jar you should be fine.

    ~ Michael

I enjoy how you think I just pulled this out of my ass.

  12. I threw together a DeathTrigger script for Aizen to use on the mesh explosion script he had. I'll include this script in 2.6 as it can be used to trigger any kind of action (such as a coordinated effect) to be played when a mob dies.

    Now..

Is there a api call we can make client side for a coordeffect to play? Always wondered that.

I've typed random functions to see whats available lmao. Never could find anything that will launch a coord effect from the client.

  13. No i read every word you said just mis interpreted i suppose

So what you are trying to say is that i cant make a program that modifies the SQL database that atavism server connects to without verifying that they are a customer because people could just use that editor instead of the atavism one?

    Correct.

The way it was explained to me is... and I quote "It circumvents atavisms security checks and it also goes around the "license per seat" rule".

It would be up to andrew to add some sort of .... web api i guess. Where we call into to check at least if the username is good.

  14. thats not true at all i would have to do is make the user enter there sql db info and connect to the sql server pull variables that way i could pull information such as:

    Players online

    Their location

    their status

you would also be able to delete records such as accounts

    so on and so on

Ok... you didn't read all of what i said lol.

I already programmed all that too (You may have missed my post a couple of days ago. It got pulled). I even programmed recipe adding and quest adding ;)

You HAVE to make the program LOG INTO ATAVISMS CUSTOMER DATABASE. The program HAS TO VALIDATE that they are A CUSTOMER of atavism.

You know... that thing you log into that unlocks the atavism window editor?

That checks to see if you actually bought atavism?

    Yea.

    That thing.

That thing has to be in the 3rd party program as well.

Sorry for the caps.... had to make it ... more clear.

  15. I was wondering if you guys could add one little thing..

    Death Effects.

I think it would be cool if there were an option to play a coord effect at the death of a player or mob.

    Particles most likely.

Maybe a bool to hide the mob as soon as it dies? Particle effect plays small zelda type explosion, leaves behind the loot :)

I've done this locally, but no one will see that :(

I also think others would greatly enjoy this addition

    Thanks for reading :)

  16. I mean i pretty good with sql and visual basic if you guys are still interested i could prob put together something like this.

Don't. It violates Atavisms EULA.... that I never did actually see nor can I find it anywhere lol.

The only way you can do this, is if you can (since you know vb) make a login form that ties directly to atavism's customer base. Then after they login with their user and pass for atavism, you can have them use your program.

Do you think neo is just gonna hand over the keys to that vault? No.

Best best, is to contract this service out to others that are using atavism.

    Sorry people.

  17. I have read the manual. Again you are missing the point and you will always miss the point of this. So with that said GOOD BYE. Alan you might mean well but please don't respond to my post.

    I'll respect your request.

  18. Here's some advice my neighbor (a guy that taught me how to play golf) gave me when I was shopping like a mad man for new golf clubs.

"It's the Indian, not the bow".

    True story.

Now.. you imagined your balls being bigger than they actually are. You stepped up to the plate, tried to take a swing, and now we are all going to strike you out.

You don't piss in someones kitchen and expect them to not get mad.

What I would do, is learn unity a little more.

This link is a prefect place. Bookmark it. Read it on the toilet. Wherever. But reading the ENTIRE manual is a must. I have.

    http://docs.unity3d.com/Manual/UnityBasics.html

Now... I told you on the forums... And I ment it. Atavism is awesome and to buy it. You can do a lot with just the starter package too.

And Dakora is right. I have helped sooooo many people. Screen shared with them (multiple times for almost 2 hours) and I don't mind doing it! I love helping people.

Why? Because the world is starting to fill up with people like you. Self centered, egotistical, turd biscuits. Just like the guy that posted in the this EXACT section about the forum spam... "Until it's fixed, I won't post anymore"...... I mean... Who do you people think you are? Who the hell died and made you king? "I am the customer" attitude stopped working in the 90's buddy.

And you know what? THOSE TUTORIALS were written and recorded by a guy BEFORE he joined Atavism as a team member. He did them for free and out of the kindness of his heart... and then here you come. Like a shart in the middle of a movie theater.

    Lastly;

You keep using the word hater..... I don't think it means, what you think it means. No one's hating on you.... wtf is there to hate about? Are we hating (jealous) that you can't use unity???

    Lastley again;

    You started this

  19. OK first of all, I didn't except to create the next wow or anything like that. As I stated in the unity forum before I bought this I was skeptical. This here proves my point. It's not my skills that is this the problem. I followed the tutorial and still had bugs. I was told from day one that I couldn't do x because I needed to create a plugin for it. What the starter package gives you is a buggy skin that you have already made. The quality of the product is worth $20 even though the quantity of hours is worth more. Its like going to red lobster ordering a $70 meal of lobster and getting a McDonald's cheeseburger. The only thing I excepted was for the program to actually work. By saying that I'm not the first nor the last proves that you aren't fixing the important things first. Stop assuming that people don't know how to do something when you don't know them, it's unprofessional.

    You've provided incompetence and ignorance.

Me and PLENTY of other people rarely have any problems using Atavism. Sure there are bugs, but nothing game breaking. Not only that... It would take you at least a year to make a full size MMO map. Longer if you're making the models yourself.

So I doubt.. no... I KNOW you're not waiting on Atavism for anything. Take a seat, and build your world first. There are some MMO's using Atavism that are doing 40Kx40K maps... and that's with a large team of modelers, texture artists, animators... the list goes on.

  20. so mean lol :P

Nah... He's not the first person to go on a rant like this... and he won't be the last.

People like him expect to make the next WoW for the price of a nice dinner... at Red Lobster or something lol.

The only thing I wish Jac would do, was include "MUST KNOW UNITY!!!" in the description.

I know I came off strong... but I am always the one to back up Jac, Andrew, and Jean. Even on the unity forum page. Nothing like pouring all your heart into a project, grinning from ear to ear over it. Sharing it with the world.... and for some immature punk to step all over it. . . As if they could do ANY of it, better.

I paid for the vet license... cause I knew exactly what I was getting. A MMORPG framework and ENDLESS amounts of updates to it. I also wanted to make my own plugins for it as well. (but that's not until atavism as at full release)

And because of Atavism, I am now apart of a 50+ man team, that is working on a massive mmo :)

  21. For UGUI, I recommend doing a GUIManager.cs and a GUIManagerInsceptor.cs

GUIManager handles the actual code to make the ui's work.

GUIManagerInspector is just a script that makes it much more easy for atavism users to modify their ui.

The inspector just has a ton of serializedObjects with two strings. One for the UILabel in the inspector and one for the actual name of the public in the GUIManager.

Obviously the GUIManager would hide everything from its own inspector.

    Just a small idea.

    Works great for me :)

If you want, I can flesh out a skeleton of it?

  22. I have had nothing but bugs. This is still in early alpha stages and should not be stole yet. From installing to actually working with it I have had problems at every corner. I have followed the out of date tutorials a hundred times and still get the same errors. For an example, today I thought I would add in some armors, I followed the guide and the UMAs don't show. If I do a ./world.sh -v -C restart , as instructed in a video, to restart the world database I cannot login to a character I made before or delete them. If I want to change multiple things in the atavism unity editor I have to close it each time. Meaning if I wanted to change let's say two items, I change the first, close the window, then I can change the second. The documentation that you do have on the wiki has no useful information in it. It just states a brief description of it with most of the time it says that it isn't working properly yet. Everything that is needed in a MMO kit is not there and if you want it you need to create your own plugin for which has no actually documentation and costs an additional $200. All the starter package gets you is a buggy skin of the game that YOU have made. Maybe at most should cost $20 not the $70 that you are asking for. The support isn't helpful at all, which most of the time says you need a plugin for it or look at the tutorials that are made before. I might check back in a few months to see if it has improved at all but I doubt it.

Don't let the door hit ya, where the good Lord split ya!

    Sorry.. had to :P
